How to use the GSTIN Validator

A GSTIN has 15 characters: a 2-digit state code, the 10-character PAN of the business, an entity number, the letter Z by default, and a check digit calculated from the first 14 characters.

This tool checks the structure and the check digit offline, which catches most typing mistakes before you put a GSTIN on an invoice. It cannot tell you whether the registration is active — for that, use the official search on the GST portal.

Frequently asked questions

What does each part of a GSTIN mean?
Digits 1–2 are the state code, characters 3–12 are the PAN, character 13 is the entity number for that PAN in the state, character 14 is usually Z, and character 15 is a check digit.
Does a valid check digit mean the GSTIN is active?
No. It only means the number is correctly formed. Check the registration status on the official GST portal.
