How to use the Land & Area Converter
Type a value in any unit and every other unit updates. Indian land units vary by region, so we use the most widely accepted values:
- 1 cent = 435.6 sq ft (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka)
- 1 guntha = 1,089 sq ft (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana)
- 1 ground = 2,400 sq ft (Chennai)
- 1 marla = 272.25 sq ft and 1 kanal = 20 marla (Punjab, Haryana)
- 1 gaj = 1 square yard = 9 sq ft
Bigha and biswa differ widely between states, so they are not included — always check local land records for official measurements.
Frequently asked questions
How many square feet are in a cent?
One cent is 435.6 square feet (1/100th of an acre).
Is gaj the same as square yard?
Yes. One gaj equals one square yard, which is 9 square feet.
Why is bigha not included?
Bigha varies from state to state (and sometimes district to district), so a single conversion would be misleading.
